CLMA SIOUXLAND CHAPTER MEETING
BOARD MEETING
February 1, 2006

CALL TO ORDER
The Siouxland Chapter Board Meeting of CLMA was called to order by president, Kathy Winters, at 12:05 PM at the Orthopedic Institute Executive Conference Room in Sioux Falls, S.D. Board Members present included Mike Dott, Rick Pudwill, John Kangas, DeeAnn Lovett, and Owen Bain via telephone.

MINUTES
Minutes were approved from the last Board Meeting. Mike Dott made the motion for approval and John Kangas seconded the motion.

TREASURER’S REPORT
John Kangas presented the Treasurer’s report. Our current checking account balance is $8133.87. John reported on the Year End Report. (Report is in Word Format, not Excel) The report actually goes to January 31, 2007. The CLMA Checking Account is an interest bearing account, so the $2.00 service charge accessed when the card is not used is offset by the interest. But, if possible, try to use the card each month. The Account is flagged when the amount of $1000.00 is charged or the charge is made in another state. The bank just needs to be notified when charges over $1000.00 will be charged. Rick made the motion to notify the bank that charges over $1000.00 are acceptable. Motion seconded by Mike. All members were in favor.

OLD BUSINESS

Siouxland Chapter Website Updates
Quick Slide is now a sponsor for the Siouxland Website.

Membership Statistics
Our current membership is 43 members. New member and renewal letters continue to be sent as members join and memberships are renewed. The Member list needs to be updated. There were 5, 10, and 15 year memberships noted by Kathy. Kathy reported that 6 members lapsed in 2006. A discussion ensued regarding memberships and CLMA Siouxland Chapter dues. ASCLS dues are less than CLMA dues. The dues seem to cover the operational costs of the chapter, and they are still only $10.00

End of Year Reports
Rick sent the Activity Report in to National CLMA, and also sent the year end SDAHO Report to SDAHO. There also was a survey form National CLMA that Rick filled out. He conveyed the points regarding cost of National Membership, number of members in smaller chapters, and too many lab societies

NEW BUSINESS

Review Applicants for ThinkLab ’07 in Houston, Texas
Twila Henning was the only applicant for the ThinkLab second member registrant.

Review Applicants for the Legislative Day in Washington, D.C
Patty Buus was the only applicant for Legislative Day. John made the motion to accept Twila’s and Patty’s applications. Rick seconded the motion.

Contract for CLMA/ASCLS Joint Meeting2007
The contract is still at a 20/80 split, which means that only 2 members of CLMA Siouxland Chapter need to be on the Planning Committee with ASCLS.

Education for 2007

Town Hall Series: Terry Erickson from Prairie Lakes Health Care is hosting the CLMA Town Hall Series which consists of 4 Teleconferences over the next several months. Kathy offered to send a “Thank You” to Terry and PLHC.

Spring Meeting: This meeting will be held May 2nd through the 4th of May. Dianne Dell and Jill Hanley are on the Planning Committee. Katherine Ayres from National CLMA will be speaking. There will be a CLMA Chapter meeting on May 3rd. The mailing list was updated several years ago and included the 5 state area. It included the CLIA and COLA labs. There was discussion regarding meetings, both ASCLS and CLMA. ASCLS has the Spring Meeting plus a 1 day Fall Meeting. There seems to be the Vendor competition during the spring as several states have a spring meeting within weeks of each other: South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. The Fall seems be taken up with SDAHO in September and, if there is another meeting at that time, one of the meetings usually suffers from low attendance. Some alternatives could be Teleconferences or Webcasts.

SDAHO/Smart Lab: SDAHO will be in Sioux Falls September 19th through the 21st.The Smart Lab Workshop (from National CLMA) will last 4 hours on Thursday. There will be a CLMA Siouxland Chapter Meeting in the afternoon.

Additional events: Have had meetings in December in past years. Owen made a motion that the Town Hall Series be considered the third educational event for 2007. This motion was seconded by Rick. All members were in favor.

CLMA Chapter Development Fund
Kathy read the request for donations for the Development Funds. A discussion followed that included the following items: small labs have harder time getting away to meetings, seminars, etc; small chapters don’t have the resources to send their President to Chapter Leader Meeting which means time away from work for that person. Motion made and seconded not to donate at this time.

Other New Business
Mike brought information regarding Mitchell Technical Institute Career Days and wanted to know if CLMA Siouxland Chapter would be interested in presenting to the first year MLT students. Kathy mentioned that 75% of her employees were MTI graduates. Rick will contact the school to see if a professional organization can present to the students.
