CLMA Siouxland Chapter - Board Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Kari Nornes at 4:15 p.m. in Yanton, SD.
Members present included Kari Nornes, Wanda Dally, Karen Jepperson, Jill Hanley, Larry Weaver, Rick Pudwill, and Twila Henning.
Minutes were approved from last meeting
Larry presented the treasurer's report. Our current checkbook balance is $4316.07 (includes a deposit from ARUP for $250 web site sponsorship).
Web Site
We discussed the website annual maintenance fee of $432. CLM has paid the fee for the past two years as a donation for being a sponsor on the website. Bill Hofer asked Kari Nornes how we are planning to continue handling that. Kari will talk to Bill—if CLM wants to continue funding the entire fee, we will do that. If they want to pay the $250 sponsorship fee only, the chapter will pay the difference for the maintenance fee.
We need to update the members section of the website with current officer information. Rick needs to send a photo and information; Jill needs to submit a photo. Please submit to Karen and she will get them on the website.
Silent Auction
Kari sent a Black Hills Gold bracelet as a donation from our chapter to the National Meeting in Salt Lake City being held in June, 2003. She included information about the history of the gold.
Member Survey
The Chapter Needs Assessment Survey was sent April 30, 2003. We have received approximately 15 responses so far.
Continuing Education Events
The SDAHO meeting is September 23-26, 2003. Rick Pudwill is helping to plan the meeting. The theme is "Everyday Healthcare Heroes".
Mailing List
Kari has prepared a combined SDSCLS/CLMA mailing list for future mailings. She combined a purchased list of all SD CLIA laboratories, added the COLA and JCAHO laboratories, and then added the SDSCLS and CLMA active members listings. Any duplicates were consolidated. We need to talk to SDSCLS about who will maintain the list to keep it current.
National Chapter Member Award
We will send a nomination for Twila Henning into National by May 31.
Membership Statistics
Kari handed out CLMA Siouxland Chapter Members Statistics so that we can see areas for potential new members.
CLMA Management Award
For the Chapter Award, we will send Administrators a letter about the qualifications and details of the award to solicit nominations from other sources. Kari and Karen will draft a letter and send it to Board Members to review. If they know of specific Administrators, they can add them to the list of active CLMA members (Kari handed out an updated listing) so we have specific names.
CLMA National Organizational Chart
We updated our files with the current organizational chart for National CLMA.
Council of Chapter Leaders Meeting in Salt Lake City, UT
Kari is planning to attend the national meeting in June and encouraged participation from as many members as can go. She included a registration form.
Joint Meeting with SDSCLS Board and Siouxland CLMA Board Members
We held a joint meeting with SDSCLS (ASCLS-SD) and CLMA to discuss a joint contract in planning educational meetings, particularly the spring meeting. We reviewed a previous contract that had been negotiated for the Pierre joint meeting but was not implemented for this year’s meeting. After lengthy discussion regarding benefits and problems co-sponsoring these educational meetings, all members agreed that we would like to continue this endeavor. We will have a task force of the two Presidents (Kari Nornes for CLMA and Mona Gleysteen for SDSCLS) and two additional members from each organization meet to draft the contract sometime in June. We will then try to have another joint Board meeting to discuss it further and approve the plan.
The Spring meeting for 2004 for SDSCLS is planned already for Huron. The meeting for 2005 was planned for Rapid City; however, it was brought up that SDAHO meets in Rapid City in 2005 and attendance from eastern SD to Rapid City for two meetings in one year is usually not very good. We recommended another location for the joint SDSCLS/CLMA 2005 meeting, since SDAHO can not be changed. That will be discussed at the next joint Board Meeting to determine a place.
Next meeting
Our next meeting will be announced. We will try to meet in June with the SDSCLS Board. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Karen Jepperson, Secretary
