CLMA Siouxland Chapter Meeting
Board Meeting
July 26, 2005
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Rick Pudwill at 9:45 a.m. in Sioux Falls. Members present included Kari Nornes, Karen Jepperson, Mike Dott, Rick Pudwill, Kathy Winter, Connie Thury, and John Kangas.
Minutes
Minutes were approved from the last meeting held December 3, 2004.
Treasurer's Report
John reported a balance in the checking account of $3990.00. Because the CD interest rates are for one year, John will watch the rates and re-evaluate the CD in the fall to save paying a penalty for early withdrawal. He will also check with SDSCLS about the check for 20% of the proceeds for the joint meeting held in May, which should be approximately $2000.
Old Business
Siouxland Chapter Website
We need to emphasize to our members to use the website, and especially talk to their vendors as sponsors for it. Rick will be talking to Abbott. John will contact Roche and HemaCue. As members acquire new instrumentation, etc., they should ask about the possibility of a sponsorship at that time. We will contact Mayo (Linda McDowell is a member of our chapter) regarding a sponsorship.

We are pleased to have our chapter website featured in the August issue of the CLMA Alliance magazine. It will have information about the start-up and support of our website. Updates have been made to the website, including a new form to make it very easy to sign up events on the calendar. Members should acquaint themselves with that feature and try to use it more frequently.
Membership Statistics
Current membership is 50 members. We have one new member, Patrick Bezenek and currently have 4 60-day trial members—Mike Anderson, Carmen Payne, Carolyn Fisccaro, Leslie Harer.
Membership Letters
New (5) and renewed (30) members will be receiving their letters from the Board. The letters welcome them and thank them for their membership and remind them who is on the Board.
ASLCS/CLMA Contract
Rick will check with Pat Tille from ASCLS/SD to get a signed contract for the Spring 2006 meeting. The current contract states that we will receive 20% of the profits but will also provide only 20% of the labor for the meeting. After discussing this issue, Rick will offer to have CLMA provide more people to help with planning for an increase in the profits from the meeting. The contract specifies that CLMA will have no more than 2 people on the Program committee and they will provide 20% of the program. Because the next meeting is in Sioux Falls, there are more CLMA members in the area who are available to help with the planning.
New Business
2005 CLMA Siouxland Leadership Award
There were seven nominations for the SDAHO Leadership Award. The Board voted for the recipient and it will be presented at the September meeting in Rapid City this fall.
Membership Continuing Education for 2005/2006
- Winter seminar/meeting will be held Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Radisson Encore Inn in Sioux Falls, SD. We will discuss the program possibilities at the September meeting. We would like to have a representative from national CLMA be the speaker for the meeting—we have a form provided by our representative from National CLMA, Lea Owens, to complete to request a speaker. Rick and Kathy will check with possible sponsors for the program (we acknowledge their sponsorship at the meeting).
- SDAHO is September 21 through 23 in Rapid City. Kathy Winter has been involved in planning the meeting. The keynote speaker will be talking on Thursday, September 22, about managing different generations. Also, Leo Serrano will be a speaker about “Lean Process” and how it can be applied to smaller laboratories. The CLMA meeting will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with the exhibits from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Kari Nornes volunteered to be our representative at the registration table on Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
- ASCLS/CLMA spring meeting is in Sioux Falls in May, 2006. More information will be available at the September meeting.
Education Committee Update
Currently, our Education Committee is set up for a one year term. Current members are Rick Pudwill, Mel Heinz, Bev Ulmer, and Erica Boltjes. Rick will contact the members to see if they want to remain on the committee this year or if we should ask for another volunteer for their replacement. He will let Kathy Winter know their response so she can contact them for the September and December meetings.
Advocacy
We would like to continue to send a member to the Legislative Symposium in Washington DC in March 2006. The National CLMA Website has a lot of new Advocacy information. It is possible to find out which committees a congressmen is on through the national website. Look under “Advocacy” on the Home Page.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
Karen Jepperson, Secretary
