May 08, 2003
The meeting was called to order by Kari Nornes at 12:30 pm with 17 members present. Those present included Mike Dott, Twila Henning, Kari Nornes, Karen Jepperson, DeeAnn Lovett, Rick Pudwill, Max Anderson, Mary Parr, Patty Buus, Connine Thury, Carmelle Miller, Bev Ulmer, Wanda Dally, Jill Henley, John Kangas, Mel Heinz, Dianne Dell.
Kari welcomed president elect Rick Pudwill and reminded us that there will be 2 new board positions available again this fall—Jill’s term as a Board Member and Karen’s term as Secretary will both be available this fall. Please let Jill and Wanda know of any names you want to nominate.
Minutes from the December 3, 2002, meeting were approved.
Larry Weaver (in absentia) reported a balance of $4,316.074 in our account. The updated treasurer report is posted on the Web-site.
Siouxland Chapter Web-site
Please encourage new vendors to sponsor our Web-site. There is a template letter on the web-site that can be customized with your name and addressed to any vendor. The letter explains the two different levels of sponsorship. Karen will check that it is not a PDF file but that it is a WORD document (edit: the document was checked on the web-site and it is a WORD document. If you have trouble opening it, please contact Karen Jepperson). The web-site has been updated so please use it and send any information you want posted on it to Karen Jepperson.
Education Events
Rick Pudwill, Education Coordinator and President Elect, is working on the SDAHO Meeting to be held in Sioux Falls Sept 23-26, 2003. He is asking for 4 volunteers to help him with ideas for the Education Committee for planning speakers. Kari will send an email to members to ask for volunteers. Please contact Rick if you would like to volunteer.
Mailing List
Kari has prepared a combined SDSCLS/CLMA mailing list for future mailings. She combined a purchased list of all SD CLIA laboratories, added the COLA and JCAHO laboratories, and then added the SDSCLS and CLMA active members listings. Any duplicates were consolidated. We need to talk to SDSCLS about who will maintain the list to keep it current.
Newsletter
We will continue to send the newsletter out by email. Our last newsletter was mailed April 28.
CLMA Management Award, presented at SDAHO
The Board will be sending letters to Administrators regarding this award to try to solicit more nominations. Please encourage nominations. The deadline is July 15, 2003.
National Chapter Member Award
Our chapter is nominating Twila Henning. If you have additional nominations, the deadline is due May 30, 2003.
Surveys
The Chapter Needs Assessment Survey was sent April 30 to members; we have received 15 responses. Deadline for returning them is June 1, 2003. Please take the time to complete the survey. There is also a National CLMA Survey that was sent to all members, due May 23, 2003.
SD Department of Health Advisory Committee
Larry Weaver has nominated Milt Schonewill from Avera McKennan Hospital for this committee.
Membership Statistics
Kari handed out CLMA Siouxland Chapter Members Statistics so that we can see areas for potential new members.
Education
We discussed what we could do for Education. One idea is sponsoring/hosting audio conferences. We discussed the possibility of having it available to view on the web-site, but it would need to be password protected. It was moved and seconded to allocate the Education Committee (Rick Pudwill) money for audio conferences.
We will also plan to host another seminar (prefer a National CLMA representative as a speaker) in December again. Possible topics will be discussed at the September meeting.
Twila mentioned she has contacted Senator Tim Johnson’s office and they want to talk with us as a group. She will check on it and keep us updated. Perhaps we can incorporate that into the December seminar.
Recognition
In recognition of her contributions to the Chapter, we awarded a gift to Twila Henning, Past President, to thank her.
Next meeting
Our next meeting will be held at the SDAHO meeting this fall.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 p.m.
Karen Jepperson, Secretary
