CLMA Siouxland Chapter Meeting
May 23, 2002
The meeting was called to order by Twila Henning at 12:00 noon with 19 members present.
Twila reminded us that we are updating our mailing list for current email addresses since updates and communications to our members will be made through E-mail and through the CLMA Siouxland Web-site.
Patty Buus moved to approve the minutes from the Sept 20 meeting; minutes were approved.
Larry Weaver (in absentia) reported a balance of $ 2,831.84 in our account The balance on our CD is $ 5,570.46 . The complete treasurer report will be posted on the Web-site with a monthly update.
- Bylaws submitted to National have been approved.
- At the last Board Meeting, the 2002 Strategic Plan was set up
- We sent a silent auction item (Black Hills gold jewelry) to the National CLMA convention
- There is a Career Fair Presentation on the national site
- There is also an organizational chart for Siouxland CLMA

Minutes from the last meeting were distributed for review.
Newsletter
Our goal is to publish this quarterly with articles submitted by members. Please submit any information you would like to have included in it to Kay Knoblock at CLM (e-mail address is knoblock@siouxvalley.org)
Education
The fall SDAHO meeting is September 25-27 in Rapid City. The day dedicated to laboratory information is the 26th.The agenda will be published on our Web-site when it becomes available. There was discussion to work with the SD Dietetic Association on some kind of a project involving laboratory and dietetics such as Homocysteine collections or proteins, etc. for 2003 SDAHO. Let Kari Nornes know if you are interested in helping with this project.
We discussed having an additional fall meeting and decided to have an educational meeting in Sioux Falls the first week of December. Kari Nornes will work on this.
Nominating Committee
Submit nominations for a Board Member for next year to either Jill Hanley or Wanda Dally.
Needs Assessment Survey
We are planning to send out a Needs Assessment Survey to stimulate growth in the Siouxland organization. Karen Jepperson handed out a draft of the survey. Any suggestions for additions can be sent to her. We will mail this out to members and non members this summer.
Government Relations/Legislative Liaison
Terry Erickson from Prairie Lakes has volunteered to be the Government Relations Representative. Anyone wanting to work on this please contact Terry. She encourages contact with John Thune's office with any comments regarding the latest proposed legislation, which may include competitive bidding and continued freeze on CPI. Template letters for your use to send letters to congress can be found on the CLMA Web-site. It is preferred that your comments are made electronically, not with a standard letter, however.
Siouxland CLMA Membership Award
Nominations are due by June 30, 2002 and can be sent to Twila Henning. The presentation will be made at the SDAHO Awards Luncheon on September 26, 2002.
National Chapter Member Award
Nominations are due by June 1, 2002 and can be nominated on the national Web-site.
Farewell to Judy Richards
We recognized Judy Richards for her contributions to the organization and state as she is retiring this year. We presented her a commemorative plaque from CLMA and celebrated with cake in the afternoon with the SDSCLS members.
Next meeting
Our next meeting will be held at the SDAHO meeting this fall.
