CLMA Siouxland Chapter Meeting
September 22, 2005
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by past-president, Kari Nornes, at 3:00 p.m. in Rapid City at the SDAHO Fall meeting. Members present included Patty Buus, Wanda Dally, Mike Dott, DeeAnn Lovett, Connie Thury, Owen Bain, Marsh Houska, Mel Heinz, Angie Petrik, John Kangas, Karen Jepperson, and Kari Nornes.
MINUTES
Minutes were approved from the last meeting held in May 2005.
TREASURER’S REPORT
John Kangas presented the Treasurer’s report. Our current check book balance is $6360.98. We received $2224.31 from the May ASCLS/CLMA meeting, which had a total of 111 registrations—7 % from CLMA members, 28% from ASCLS members, and 65% from non members. John will watch the interest rates this fall when the CD is due and consider a shorter term investment. The report was approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Website Updates
We have received some new vendor sponsorships but please continue to ask vendors you see to sponsor the website. With over 36,000 hits to our website through May, it is a good way for them to advertise and link to their websites.
Our chapter was featured in the August 2005 CLMA Alliance Newsletter as an example of a successful website sponsorship program.
Please continue to use the website for your information resource. The link to add information to the event calendar is easy to use and is updated with new information after it is entered and approved.
Membership Statistics
Our current membership is 49 members with 4 lapsing this month, 1 lapsed last month and 1 lapsing next month. We have one new member—Patrick Bezenek from Queen of Peace—welcome to Patrick!
Member and renewal letters continue to be sent as memberships are renewed.
NEW BUSINESS
CLMA Siouxland Leadership Award
Congratulations to Owen Bain for receiving the 2005 CLMA Siouxland Leadership award at the SDAHO convention in Rapid City! His leadership in the past 30 years has been remarkable and we recognize him for his many contributions to laboratory medicine.
Nominations for Chapter Secretary and Board member
Terms for Chapter Secretary (Karen Jepperson) and a Board Member position (Mike Dott) will expire this December so nominations were accepted. Terms are for 2 years and will begin January 1, 2006. For Board Member, nominees include Bev Ulmer, Mike Dott, Owen Bain. Nominated for Secretary is DeeAnn Lovett. Additional nominations will be accepted through October 31, 2005 (ballot is attached).
EducationCommittee
Wanda Dally and Patty Buus agreed to help Kathy Winter coordinate the Education Committee and to help plan the upcoming educational meeting in December (current committee members are Bev Ulmer, Erica Bolte, Kathy Winter, and Mel Heinz).
State Fair Volunteers
Thank you again to those who helped with the phlebotomy for PSAs at the Huron State Fair—Patty Buus, DeeAnn Lovett, Rick Pudwill, and Owen Bain. There were 476 participants who had PSAs performed for Cancer Awareness. This is the fourth year this has been done.
Winter Meeting
Our winter educational meeting is scheduled for December 8 at the Radisson in Sioux Falls, SD. Patty, Wanda and Karen will help arrange a speaker for the meeting. Suggestions for topics included national speakers, licensure, the Lean process. Information will be sent out by the first part of November.
SDAHO Registration Fees to Increase
Currently SDAHO charges our chapter $40 per registration for the SDAHO meeting; however, the fee is being raised to $65 per registration next year. Since we are currently charging our members $65 for the registration, we voted to increase the registration amount to $90 to cover the increase in fees to SDAHO. We will continue to receive $25 per registration for the Chapter.
ASCLS/CLMA Meetings 2006
Because of scheduling conflicts for the Spring meeting, plans have changed for ASCLS/CLMA annual spring meeting. There will be a one-day educational meeting on May 5 at the Oaks Hotel in Sioux Falls. There will also be a joint 3-day meeting October 4-6 at the Ramkota in Sioux Falls. Please mark your calendars for those dates. We have several members on the planning committee for those meetings.

Our next meeting will be December 8, 2005 at the Radisson in Sioux Falls at the educational seminar. The meeting was adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
