CLMA SIOUXLAND CHAPTER MEETING
October 5, 2006
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by president, Rick Pudwill, at 4:45 PM at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls. Members present included Mike Dott, Mel Heinz, Connie Thury, Karen Jepperson, Kari Nornes, Marsha Houska, Patty Buus, Kay Knoblock, Bev Ulmer, Terry Erickson, Twila Henning, Kathy Winter, Danielle Jenniges, Majorie Ness, and DeeAnn Lovett, and past member Patrick Bezenek.
MINUTES
Minutes were updated and approved from the last chapter meeting held in May 2006.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The Treasurer’s report showed that the chapter had $3372.92. The report was approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Siouxland Chapter Website.
Vendor contracts are still at the $100 and $250 levels. Kathy Winter has contacted Fisher with no response so far. Rick has contacted Abbott and is waiting for an answer. He will contact the LCM Pathologist, also. Mark Toboll is doing an excellent job with the website.
Membership Statistic/Letters
Our current membership is 46 members. New member letters, renewal letters, and lapsing member letters continue to be sent as new members sign up, and memberships are renewed or lapsed.
ASCLS/CLMA Contract
The contract is currently 80% SDASCLS and 20% Siouxland Chapter of CLMA. Our goal is to get closer to 50-50. Dual membership seems to be a factor, along with the amount of money the SDASCLS needs for their scholarship fund, but we will keep addressing the issue. The next meeting is slated for Aberdeen, S. D..
Chapter By-Laws, Advocacy Rep Guidelines
The Siouxland Chapter Board approved the By-Laws. Katherine Ayres from National CLMA had input, also. Terry Erickson has worked on the Guidelines.
2006 Membership Continuing Education Events
The meetings from the past year were discussed. These included the Spring SDASCLS/CLMA Meeting, SDAHO, and this meeting, the Fall SDASCLS/Siouxland Chapter CLMA Meeting.
State Fair Cancer Booth Update
Three Chapter Members: Mary Parr, Patty Buus, and DeeAnn Lovett helped at the SD State Fair helping to draw PSA’s.
NEW BUSINESS
Nominations for Chapter President-Elect, Treasurer, and Board member
Rick will e-mail a Nomination Form to the Siouxland Chapter Members. Please talk to other members that may not be here today.
Chapter By-Laws/ National Changes
Siouxland Chapter is currently up to date, but we will have some updating to do next year, also.
Advocacy-Competitive Bidding & PAC-Terry Erickson
Terry passed out PAC Contribution Forms. Any amount is welcome, but we need to have more of a voice in the national legislature. Terry urged the members to get in contact with their states’ congressional members.
2007 Membership Continuing Education Events
1. SDASCLS/ Siouxland CLMA Chapter Joint Meeting: Spring or Fall Venue. Vendors seem to like the fall better for attending. Also, it seems like the number of attendees is higher. The spring meeting could be 1 day again or more.
2. SDAHO/September: Consider relationship to SDAHO. The Siouxland Chapter is an Affiliate Member. We are their resource for information regarding lab issues.
3. Winter Meeting: Depends on what and how many other meetings have been held.
4. CLMA Smart Lab: This is a Seminar that is available to the Chapters. The cost would be the travel expenses for the speaker and meeting place.
Council of Chapter Leaders meeting in November
Rick informed the members regarding this meeting in Houston. The expenses would be for the hotel, meals and airline ticket. After some discussion, and a vote, it was decided to have Rick not attend this meeting. We are currently sending 2 members to the National Meeting and 1 member to the Legislative Symposium.
Miscellaneous Topics:
Rick thanked the members that helped with the Fall Meeting and asked all the members to thank the vendors for displaying at this meeting.
Fundraiser Drawing
The drawing for the I POD that was donated by Lonn Shied was held. Lisa Henning was the winner. Connie Thury was presented with the raffle ticket money.
Adjournment
The motion was made by Kathy Winter and seconded by Twila Henning.
DeeAnn Lovett, Secretary
