Minutes
Minutes were approved from the last meeting held in September 2005.
Treasurer's Report
John Kangas presented the Treasurer’s report. He cashed our CD and put into the checking account until we decide how to invest. Our current TOTAL balance is $13,126.55. We voted to invest $6000 into a 6 month plan at 4.11% at Cortrust. We will decide at the May meeting what to do when that is due. The report was approved.

Website Updates
Please continue to use the website for your information resource. The link to add information to the event calendar is easy to use and is updated with new information after it is entered and approved.
Membership Statistics
Our current membership is 46 members. Member and renewal letters continue to be sent as memberships are renewed. We discussed ideas for a membership drive for next year. Some thoughts included an open house in the northeast part of South Dakota with the CLMA information available. Other ideas included paying for a membership for the member who recruits the most new members, pay for a portion of new memberships (i.e., pay 50%), have either Saturday or evening meetings to attract some clinic employees. It was also suggested that we have a fun night on Thursday, May 4, prior to our Spring May meeting. Karen will check on availability of facilities to host an event.
Education Committee/Event Planning Committee
Rick suggested having a committee to find facilities, organize events, and design the brochures for an entire year and have the calendar come out in January so we know when meetings are and can plan better. Rick will call members and ask them to help with this.
New Business
New Secretary/Board Member Announced
Congratulations Mike Dott for being re-elected as a Board member for two more years. DeeAnn Lovett will be secretary for the next two years. These positions begin January 1, 2006.
New Display for CLMA Siouxland booth
We discussed updating our current convention display booth. It is broken and very difficult to assemble and has not been updated in several years. We agreed it is necessary to update since we use it and would like to be more involved in events for recruitment, career days, etc. There are several options available:
- Use a display provided by national CLMA (they can be reserved and used and we pay shipping charges). It is available on a first come/first serve basis.
- Customize a table cloth drape that would have our Siouxland logo information on it but still use the National display board—cost is approximately $300 for that
- Order our own new display—Karen suggested looking at Skyline for information
(Note: edited information from Karen: the cost for a 48 X 83 inch display is $795 and it can include our own information, logo, and is very easily assembled. It can be used both table top or on a floor. Additional items available include lights for $160 and a hard carry case [it folds up very small] for $160. Total cost is approximately $1100 for everything included. We can provide our own design or they can do that too, at an additional charge.)
The Board will discuss the options and decide how to proceed. We also discussed possibly getting Chapter pins to have at our booth or to have available for new members. We can use them to thank people who have helped us. Karen will check with National CLMA about them. We decided to order 100 of them if they are less than $10 each.
(Note: the cost estimate from national was $3.50 to $5.50 per pin…Karen has sample designs)
Washington DC Legislative Symposium
We decided at the last meeting to continue to send a member to the March ASCLS/CLMA Legislative Symposium held in Washington DC. Applications need to be sent to Rick by January 6 so the Board can select by January 10. Include why you would like to be our representative on Capitol Hill. It is held at the end of March this year.
We also decided to sponsor an additional member to go to the National convention. If we register by January 18, we can get a second registration for ½ price. Send in your applications to Rick by January 10th for this.
Winter Meeting
We discussed the low attendance at our winter meetings and decided not to have a winter meeting next year because we have a May meeting, SDAHO in the fall, and Fall meeting…it was suggested to possibly have a summer meeting instead for 2006. It was suggested to have a meeting in another town besides Sioux Falls to draw more attendance in 2007. The Events Committee will decide how to approach that.
Chapter Advocate
Terry Erickson volunteered to be our representative as a Chapter Advocate. Thank you, Terry!
Our next meeting will be May 5 at the one day spring meeting, held in Sioux Falls at the Oaks Hotel. The meeting was adjourned at 11:55 a.m.
