CLMA Siouxland Chapter Meeting
September 20, 2007
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by president, Kathy Winter, at 4:20PM at the Sioux Falls Convention Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Members present included Owen Bain, Mike Dott, Karen Jepperson, Kari Nornes, Marsha Houska, Patty Buus, Connie Thury, Bev Ulmer, Neysa Miller, Kay Knoblock, Rick Pudwill, DeeAnn Lovett, and guest Brenda Miller.
Minutes
Minutes from the May 3, 2007 Chapter Meeting were motioned for approval by Marsha and seconded by Mike Dott.
Treasurer’s Report
John was absent, so Kathy reported that CLMA Siouxland Chapter had $5962.32 for a balance, and have since received $1819.68 from the Spring Meeting. Connie made the motion to approve the Report and seconded by Patty.
Old Business
2007 Educational Events
CLMA Town Hall Series: Last one will be presented on November 14, 2007 in Sioux Falls. Terry Erickson would like feed back as her administrator may agree to sponsor another CLMA series in 2008.
Siouxland Chapter Website.
HemoCue is in the process of sending their payment for $250.00. There was discussion as to entities to contact for sponsorship. We received a “no” from Fisher.
Membership Statistic/Letters
Our current membership is 41 members. The newest member is Robert Jensen from Prairie Lakes Healthcare Center in Watertown, S.D. New member letters, renewal letters, and lapsing member letters continue to be sent as new members sign up, and memberships are renewed or lapsed.
2008 Education
Rick is spearheading the Spring Education Event. He would like suggestions as to whether it should be one focused towards one topic or several topics, etc. The date is March 26, 2008 and it will be held in Sioux Falls, S.D. We need to get a mailing/e-mail list to send out information.
Region V Meeting
This convention will be held in Fargo, N.D. DeeAnn and Terry will attend and use the CLMA National display.
New Business
Call for nominations for Secretary and Board Member
The offices of Secretary and Board Member are up for election for next 2 years. Please talk to other members and let Kathy know of any nominees.
CLMA Leadership Award
Robert Jenson was one of twenty people selected for this award. He will spend a week at Notre Dame.
Seimans Solutions Diagnostic Executive Management Program
Seimans has programs available.
Council of Chapter Leaders Meeting
No member was sent last year, and it appears that no member will be going this year.
Change of Chapter Relations Specialist
Melody Campbell will be the new specialist to stay in contact with.
Advocacy
Competitive Bidding is on going. It could still possibly be addressed at the Spring Meeting. Mary Jo Boniface recently testified before Congress. We need to continue to participate during the Legislative Days in the spring of 2008.
Career Days
There was a discussion regarding talking to high schools about the laboratory profession. Kathy said there might be help available from National CLMA. Also, the ASCP Website might be a resource. Rick talks to the MLT students at Mitchell Technical Institute in regards of what to expect after graduation.
SD State Fair Booth
The PSA Draw was held at the South Dakota State Fair again this year. Owen reported that 602 specimens were processed which is the most that have been drawn since the start of the PSA Booth.
2006 Annual Report
Attached to the agenda is the Annual Report that Rick submitted for 2006
Adjournment
The meeting was then motioned for adjournment by Connie and seconded by Mike.
